LoRaWAN

A Game-changer for the IoT.
We are at the forefront of bringing forth one of Canada’s first carrier grade Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) designed for IoT applications: LoRaWAN™
Low-power wireless networks are key enablers for the Internet of Things (IoT), but familiar options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cellular networks lack an optimal combination of extended range and battery life.

For instance, cellular networks, while commonly known and understood, is a great fit for high data throughput, but power consumption and costs are simply too prohibitive—especially in cases where large amounts of connections need to be transmitted. On the other hand, Wi-Fi is best suited for short-range applications. On their own, neither of these can fully leverage the promise held by IoT. In order to address this, we offer innovative solutions that utilize the revolutionary LoRa® technology.

The application sweet spot for LoRa technology resides at the intersection between long-range transmission capabilities, coupled with low power consumption, low cost and near real-time communication – these typically include metering, monitoring, tracking and control.

Globally, LoRaWAN has been deployed in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia over the past couple of years. There are already approximately 50 operators offering LoRaWAN network services, with notable ones including Orange and Objenious in France, Proximus in Belgium, SK Telecom in Korea and Comcast in the US. With operators in Germany, China, Japan, UK and South Africa providing coverage for their regions, Canada is now poised to start reaping the benefits that Smart Cities and Enterprise IoT applications can offer.

Key Features of LoRa Wireless RF Technology:

Long Range

A single base station using LoRa Technology enables deep penetration capability for dense urban environments and indoor coverage, while also providing the ability to connect to sensors more than 15-30 miles away in rural areas.

Low Power

The LoRaWAN protocol was developed specifically for low power and enables unprecedented battery lifetime of up to 20 years depending on the application.

Geolocation

Enables tracking applications without GPS or additional power consumption.

Low Cost

LoRa Technology reduces upfront infrastructure investments and operating costs, as well as end-node sensor costs.

Open Standard

The LoRaWAN protocol ensures interoperability among applications, IoT solution providers and telecom operators to speed adoption and deployment.
By focusing extensively and continuously refining our expertise on LoRaWAN,
we are heavily dedicated to maximizing the potential of LoRaWAN
to bring forth innovative, sophisticated, and efficient applications to the IoT ecosystem.
